“Sleep is half of health”
Proverbe Breton.
Hello, young Padawan
As the saying goes, many of us would gladly trade a feather mattress for a deep sleep, and I understand you. Even though we’ve already talked about it, a few pillow resisters continue to have trouble seducing Morpheus. So here we go for a new flirting lesson, where this time we’re going to talk about a chocolate powder to take in the form of hot chocolate an hour before going to sleep, and which, in addition to taking care of your skin, thanks to its anti-aging formula, your joints, and muscles during a restorative sleep, helps it to be — restorative, your sleep, try to keep up otherwise we won’t succeed.
A hot chocolate against insomnia, but what is this witchcraft? Yes, basically, that’s it; nicer than being knocked out and more natural than pills that have the consequences we know, so why not try? Well, you’re right, because I tested the night elixir from the Welle Co brand of the former top model Elle Macpherson, The Evening Elixir, and all this in collaboration with a guinea pig who suffers from insomnia.
Let’s go.
The Evening Elixir, by Welle Co, after 40 days of testing.
Here’s the story. Your faithful servant, sleeping like a baby but interested in everything related to well-being and anti-aging in general, was seduced by the evening hot chocolate at only 13 calories concept, almost no fat (0.5 g per cup), and little sugar (0.9 g per cup). The formula contains magnesium, niacin, and vitamin C, a precursor to collagen renewal (which keeps your skin elastic), and many plants with multiple benefits, such as chamomile and lavender for sleep. This elixir promises a wake-up with a luminous, young, glowing complexion. Needless to say, I was motivated!
However, since I wanted to test it for you, young Padawan, and I sleep like a baby, I had to get my hands on a guinea pig who only sleeps on February 29th to have feedback on all the supposed benefits. For this, we will have the opinion of “Mr. T,” whose job and lifestyle have made his sleep more than chaotic, with going to bed at random times, multiple deviations, abuses, and parties of all kinds, and who has lost his sleep for 15 years. If anyone finds it, please let us know via the form on this blog; I know someone who will be delighted to get their hands on it again.
So, with a maniac of anti-aging and a former insomniac party animal, my goodness, we should be able to give you a correct and, above all, impartial review of this product.
As for the taste, we both found that this hot chocolate was delicious, not too sweet, very nice. Mr. T drank it only with hot water, and I tried it with water and vegetable milk, but I preferred it with water, too, because you can taste the flavors better.
For my part, I have noticed, and this despite already very decent nights for my age, healthy lifestyle, and stress level, a deeper and more restorative sleep, even if I don’t have an insomnia problem, I remind you.
Knowing that, a little aside, I have a magic tool to prove and measure it since I acquired an Oura ring. For those who do not know what this is, it is the same principle as an Apple Watch, but in a ring, and specialized in studying your sleep cycles. Indeed, having passed this year within two fingers, not to say within a hair of a magnificent burn-out, which fortunately did not happen because I knew how to see the signs, I told myself that a gadget that tells me how I sleep and what are my heart constants and blood oxygen levels was not superfluous; I’m waiting to have a little more perspective, and I’ll tell you more about this mysterious ring soon.
And so, my Oura ring clearly let me know that my sleep went from “good” to “excellent” during the trial of this elixir. In particular, my deep and paradoxical sleep phases went to the standards of people in their twenties, while I’m twice that (and even a little more, if we’re talking about tax-inclusive).
I also wake up with a brighter complexion and the impression of having better skin quality without changing anything in my usual cosmetic ritual.
As for the return of “Mr. T,” an insomniac of a little over three times twenty years old, all taxes included, it’s unequivocal. He really sleeps better, he tells me, and above all, falls asleep within 15-20 minutes after going to bed. In contrast, even with a book, he usually confides in me that sometimes, after two hours of reading and not being able to fall asleep, he would get out of bed to watch a series on TV.
He still wakes up at night between 3 and 5 a.m. — however, regulars of this blog know that it is not insomnia but his (overloaded) liver talking, so this is off-topic — and confides in me that he has more energy than before after 40 days of testing.
He also tells me that he is a little more in good spirits than this summer when things were not great and that he thinks it is due to his sleep, which is generally better and more restorative. So he took this opportunity of more energy and increased mood to return to sport after our test, which he had not done since last May and has been sleeping even better since; we are at more than 60 days, and he is still continuing the elixir because he wants to continue over one quarter.
Finally, he has the impression—and he is a man, so it is obvious—that he has better skin quality as well. I have observed myself that his face shows fewer signs of lymphatic disorders, meaning it is less swollen, and he has fewer bags under his eyes.
In short, we are both objectively fitter, more beautiful, and sexier—just that. Could this be the secret of the top models that has been hidden from us until now? I don’t think so. It’s a fairly simple formula if we look at the composition, but it can be a nice little cure, especially in this winter period, which invites us to rest, to introspection, and therefore to more sleep than in summer, for example.
This teaches us, above all, that when we do a little thing to take care of ourselves, we tend to logically take better care of ourselves. It establishes a sleep ritual, inviting us to slow down a little before going to sleep, turn off the screens and read a book, relax, and prepare ourselves psychologically for the night. This cup of hot chocolate marks the starting signal of this ritual.
You will have understood that whether you test Elle’s hot chocolate or you set up your own ritual with a little chamomile herbal tea, for example, the goal is to put a stop to this epileptic life that we sometimes live in spite of ourselves and to slow down. Slow down to better prepare for sleep, to fill up on energy, and to be able to leave healthily for new adventures.
That’s a good resolution for this new year. A word to the wise, have a good New Year’s Eve, and see you next Friday.
XO ✨
